Forage production and quality of tropical forage legumes submitted to shading Ciência Rural
Lista,Fábio Nunes; Deminicis,Bruno Borges; Almeida,João Carlos de Carvalho; Araujo,Saulo Alberto do Carmo; Zanella,Pablo Giliard.
ABSTRACT: Find shade-tolerant species is essential to the success of silvopastoral systems, increasingly frequent in recent years. In legumes, which have potential of biological nitrogen fixation, there is a great lack of knowledge when in shaded environments. The cultivation of four tropical forage (Neonotonia wightii, Pueraria phaseoloides, Macrotyloma axilare and Arachis pintoi) was evaluated when submitted to artificial shade levels (30, 50 and 70% shade) and in full sun during water and drought seasons. The design used was in randomized complete blocks in a sub-divided plot scheme with four replications. In the Water-season the Forage Peanuts had higher forage production in full sun (11 ton ha-1 DM), and under shade did not differ from Perennial...

Genotypic value in hybrid progenies of Panicum maximum Jacq. Ciência Rural
Braz,Thiago Gomes dos Santos; Martuscello,Janaina Azevedo; Jank,Liana; Fonseca,Dilermando Miranda da; Resende,Marcos Deon Vilela; Evaristo,Anderson Barbosa.
ABSTRACT: Genetic breeding of forage plants has increasingly contributed to the release of more productive plants. In this regard, evaluating the genotypic value is essential when aiming to rank genotypes based on the mean free of environmental factors. Therefore, this study aimed to predict the genotypic value of agronomic and nutritive value characters of three progenies of Panicum maximum. Hybrids were evaluated in a clonal test in an incomplete-randomized design with three treatments (progenies 1, 2, and 3) and two replications (clones). Six harvests were performed at 25cm from the ground level throughout one year. Progeny 2 provided better results for total and leaf dry mass yield, regrowth, and height, and lower incidence of leaf spot. Progenies 1...

Heating on the volatile composition and sensory aspects of extra-virgin olive oil Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Nunes,Cleiton Antônio; Souza,Vanessa Rios de; Corrêa,Síntia Carla; Silva,Marília de Cássia da Costa e; Bastos,Sabrina Carvalho; Pinheiro,Ana Carla Marques.
The main ways by which extra-virgin olive oil is consumed include direct application on salads or as an ingredient in sauces, but it is also been used by some for cooking, including frying and baking. However, it has been reported that under heat stress, some nonglyceridic components of olive oil are degraded. So, the effect of heating (at 50, 100, 150, and 200 °C for 2 h) on the volatile composition and sensory aspects of extra-virgin olive oil were evaluated. Heating altered the volatile composition of extra-virgin olive oil, mainly at higher temperatures (above 150 °C). The main modifications were related to the formation of large amounts of oxidized compounds, particularly large chain aldehydes. Sensory aspects were also altered when the oil was heated...

Hydrothermal Vents: Oases at Depth ArchiMer
Sarrazin, Jozee; Desbruyeres, Daniel.
The synthesis of organic molecules in hydrothermal fluids raises the question of what role hydrothermal vents may have played in the emergence of life on Earth. These deep‐sea ecosystems were most likely protected from extreme conditions at the surface (meteor showers and ultraviolet radiation). Since the middle of the 19th century, scientists have questioned the position of deep‐sea animals in the evolution of marine fauna, in the hope to discover the missing link, i.e. the species or group that may have survived mass extinctions in this protected and stable environment. This chapter discusses the geology and geochemistry of hydrothermal systems, microbial chemosynthesis, symbioses and trophic chains, and fauna at different spatial scales. Fauna...
